As I was leaving campus one afternoon, I met up with a colleague on the sidewalk who was wearing a tiara. I asked her if it was her birthday; she quickly replied, "No, it's Tiara Tuesday!" I'd never heard of that and thought it was the best thing ever! I mean, who doesn't love some unexpected sparkle in our day-to-day lives while not taking ourselves too seriously?
Not long after, we found our routines and lives challenged by a global pandemic. I became even more aware of how important it is to be intentional with our connections with other people. There seems to be an epidemic of loneliness and genuine need for belongingness and authentic connection. While some use social media for negative interaction, during the pandemic, it was also noted how people literally kept themselves afloat because of the connections we were able to have virtually as we isolated. All the while... I couldn't get "Tiara Tuesday" off my mind.
I thought... "What if?" What if we created a group of women that connected both in-person and virtually with a positive intent to be a support for each other? Not only do we want to survive our routine and unexpected circumstances, but we want to thrive in the midst of them. And, let's face it. None of us are getting any younger (no matter what age we are starting at), so what if we talked about what we are going through? What if we help each other through this process of aging... and do it gratefully? What if we share our experiences, have fun together, and volunteer in our communities to make the world a bit brighter in our little corners... ALL WHILE WEARING OUR TIARAS?
Around the same time, I kept seeing a couple quotes circulate that really impacted me: "On the darkest days when I feel inadequate, unloved, and unworthy, I remember whose daughter I am, and I straighten my crown."
AND
"Be the woman who fixes another woman's crown without telling the world that it was crooked."
That, my friends, is how The Tiara Tribe was born. They say it takes a village to raise a child. I think it TAKES A TRIBE TO THRIVE, so here's to connecting and doing just that!
